  • Year 3 Class Assembly - Harvest

    Thu 28 Sep 2023 Miss M Ambrose

This year the Year 3 class assembly focused on celebrating the Festival of Harvest. The children have been learning all about Harvest over the past couple of weeks and the whole school have been practicing Harvest songs in our Friday singing assemblies. Children learnt all about celebrating what we have by sharing with others. We also had the pleasure of creating a whole school donation for a local food bank, FoodShare, a representative of which came to the assembly to talk about the positive impact that the charity makes in our community as well as to thank the children for their donations.

  • GOOD NEWS! - RESULTS

    Mon 25 Sep 2023 Mrs S Lee

Our school’s Year 6, SATs Reading results were higher than other local schools and higher than national results.

90% of our pupils achieved age related expectations when compared to 76% locally, and 73% nationally.

A higher percentage of our pupils were judged as working at Greater Depth at the end of Year 2.

The Year 1 phonics results (83%) is 4% higher than national results.

Our pupils' Good Level of Development (GLD) in Reception stands at 84%, 17% higher than national results.

This is testimony to the excellent curriculum and Teachers at Dorney School. We have never rested on our laurels. Even during the last re-inspection (September 2021), the HMI (Her Majesty’s Inspector) was frustrated with the timing of his inspection as he could see the accelerated progress of the school and urged us to look at the criteria for Outstanding in the category of Behaviour and Personal Development. He could see good progress in all areas, and knew that our results would validate the work we do. Yes, we now wait for the next round of inspections which seem really unfair (as the results above demonstrate) and yet we carry on, going from strength to strength! This is the reason why the illustrious Chartered College of Teaching chose our school amongst thousands of applicants to help them develop a bespoke primary curriculum which will be rolled out nationally. It is a great time to be a child at our school, and I am delighted by the success, positivity and happiness of our pupils, staff and parents.

  • Autumn

    Fri 22 Sep 2023 Mrs S Lee

Learning about Autumn in Reception class

It all started with Aliyar’s fascination with spiders and spiderwebs. We caught some spiders in bug jars and looked at marking, and patterns. Aliyar was fascinated when we had to release the spiders and they scuttled away. We then looked at some autumn treasures and later went on a very long walk collecting conkers, leaves, acorns and hips. On the way, we met a beautiful caterpillar, hunted for squirrels and went to visit the chickens in the nature garden.

  • Year 3 - Climates

    Fri 22 Sep 2023 Miss M Ambrose

In Year 3 this term we have been learning all about the different climate biomes in our world. This week we looked at desert climate biomes. The children learnt all about desert animals, plants, weather and towns before making their own desert climate biomes in a jar using baby cacti. Over the next few weeks year 3 will watch their biomes develop and see if they can spot any desert climate features that they learnt about in our lesson!

  • Jeans for Genes day

    Fri 22 Sep 2023 Mrs S Lee

Jeans for Genes - Friday 22nd September

Today we wore our jeans for Genes to raise awareness of the daily challenges faced by those living with a genetic condition and to raise money to fund projects that make a tangible difference to the lives of those affected. 500 000 children are affected by a life altering condition.

We were delighted to welcome Charlotte Hobbs who talked about her son, Teddy, and his condition. She will help us learn about children who are affected by genetic conditions and the importance of acceptance and inclusion. Pupils do not have to bring a contribution, but parents may wish to donate to https://www.jeansforgenes.org/pay-in-your-money

Thank you for all contributions made.
