Respect - Collaborate - Grow

Class 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Class Teachers: Mrs L Ross-Wood and Mrs M Chaggar

My name is Mrs Ross-Wood, one of the Year 5 class teachers at Dorney School. I have worked at Dorney School for over two years now and this is my third consecutive year teaching in the Year 5 class.

In the classroom, I love to teach English - this is the subject I specialised in during university. I also enjoy teaching PE and RE - I am the RE subject leader at Dorney School, which means I get to lead the curriculum of learning across the school.

I have been a qualified Primary School teacher for 16 years and have worked in a range of schools, both locally, and further afield. I have always worked in KS2.

Outside of school, I enjoy quite an active life. I have young children aged 9 and 7. We enjoy bike riding, kayaking and going for walks in the countryside. I like to exercise and have different fitness goals that I like to work towards. I also enjoy travelling and seeing new places. Last year, my family drove to Belgium and camped in a forest for 3 weeks. We had a fantastic time.

Hello I’m Mrs. Chaggar, I am thrilled to be teaching Year 5 this year and teach every Thursday and Friday.

We are a keen class of 27 enthusiastic learners! We are ready to challenge ourselves in our learning this year, to set high expectations and collaborate together to make the very best of our opportunities.

I am very passionate about teaching all subjects, though PSHE and Growth Mindset are my favourites and I lead these at Dorney School. We want the children to understand that it is okay to be stuck and that some of their best learning is done when they find things the hardest. Rather than simply praising success, we praise effort and resilience. We believe that the best thing to do is to teach children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy the effort, and keep on learning.

We believe it is very important to work together as a team. We will be spending a lot of time together so it is important to treat each other with respect, kindness and compassion. I know that all children are different and learn in different ways and it is my job as a teacher to help you grow as a learner and as a person of good character.
