Respect - Collaborate - Grow
A message from Mrs Robson
I hope you and your families are well and have all been able to make the most of this lovely sunshine alongside of completing some of the home learning tasks. I am loving reading both children’s and parents’ comments and looking at what you have been achieving. Your feedback is invaluable as this is a new venture for us all. Please continue to feedback through the purple mash activities, you can also contact school via the office email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any queries or need any help or support.
PE with Joe Wicks at 9 am is a great way to start the day (these sessions can be accessed any time if 9.00 doesn’t suit your family).
My girls and I have also been enjoying a dice game in the sun. You just need one dice each and a grid (we have been using the paving slabs on the patio). Start in a row in the middle, all roll your dice at the same time, if you roll an even number then move forward one space, if you roll an odd number then move back one space. The first to get all the way forward wins!!
Please do continue with the purple mash tasks, numbots and times tables rockstars, all logins should be in the front of your child’s reading record but if you are missing any then please do contact the office. There are many other fab online resources which have been made free to access by all including phonics play which the children are used to using in class. Please let me know through the school office if there is anything else you would find particularly useful.
Your child should have a list of either sight words to read or key word spellings in the back of their reading record. Please spend some time checking that your child can read/spell these words and practise those they are struggling with (just a few at a time). We will look at putting the lists on the website so that you can access the next one for your child when they are ready.
Thank you for reading this, stay safe.
Welcome to Year 1!
In Year 1, Mrs Robson is the main class teacher, teaching four days a week to ensure continuity across English and Maths learning. Other lessons are taught by Mrs Hughes, Mrs Disney and Miss Chana. We are very lucky to have support all week by Mrs Austin too.
PE is taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays but this sometimes changes, so it is best to leave PE kits in school all term; we will send them home for a wash during holidays. Please ensure that all school and PE uniform are clearly named. Earrings must be removed or covered with micro-pore tape (tape to be provided by home) for PE.
Children make best progress when they are supported in their learning at home. Reading books will come home every day and we encourage the children to read at least 4 times a week at home. Please write a comment in the reading records and ensure that these records are in school every day. At the back of these record books you will find the sight words your child is working on learning; please practise these at home to help to improve reading fluency.
Home learning and spellings are sent home on Fridays and are due into school by the following Wednesday. Spellings are checked in school on Wednesdays.
The children get very excited about improving their maths skills through Numbots, which can be accessed online at home using the login details in the front of the reading record.
Please also ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school and that it only contains water. They will also need a lunchtime drink; this could be water, squash or juice (no fizzy drinks please). They can also bring in a fruit or vegetable snack for morning playtime.
We look forward to our exciting learning journey together in Year 1.
