Respect - Collaborate - Grow
Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage, otherwise known as EYFS or Reception. Your child joins us in the year they turn five and our provision prepares them for the learning journey ahead.
The class is led by Mrs S Lee, who is also the Assistant Head at Dorney School. She is supported by Mrs Disney, the Classroom Assistant and Mrs Devalekar a Support Assistant.
Children learn through exploring a safe and stimulating environment. They can use both indoors and outdoors during the school day and have access to snack and water in the classroom. Through careful planning, teaching, discovering and enquiring and a continuous provision, children develop the independence, resilience, determination and a curious mind.
The classroom is equipped with a range of learning resources that children can investigate and play with. This is where they learn to co-operate and develop good social skills. The school day is divided into three clear carpet sessions and the children are taught Literacy, Maths and Phonics in these sessions. One of the sessions is also dedicated to Understanding of the World (which covers traditional Science, History and Geography subjects) and PSED ( Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Phonics is central to the teaching of Reading and Writing. We encourage a love for books and language. Children are read to daily and we encourage reading at home. Parent-School partnership is very important to the success of each child.
The teaching is guided by Development Matters, the curriculum in the Early Years and pupils work towards a Good Level of Development. Progress is carefully tracked, and work is carefully kept, as evidence of progress.
We welcome parents and visitors to our class. Come and look for yourself at the fabulous learning and playing we do at Dorney. Our aim is clear:
To provide a caring environment that enables children to succeed as unique, happy individuals.
