High Expectations - Aspirations - Enjoyment
Welcome to Year 5
Class Teacher – Mrs Barnard
Teaching Assistant – Mrs Lockwood and Mrs Thompson
Year 5 is a very exciting and busy year. There are lots of interesting topics to cover and a residential trip to look forward to at the end of March.
Expectations are high in Year 5, as they are across the school, and I am looking forward to having Year 5 throughout the year.
We have started the year learning about legends (Robin Hood) in English, concentrating on place value in Maths, finding out about Earth and Space in Science together with mountains and volcanoes in Geography.
Our PE days this term will be Monday and I am always keen to ensure that we are able to do PE either inside or out, dependent on weather. As such I would ask that the children leave their kit in school from Monday morning until Friday afternoon – just in case we swap days to suit the weather and other plans.
PE kit includes:
Yellow/Dorney School T-Shirt
Dark coloured jogging bottoms
Dark coloured hoodie
Socks to change into
All long hair must be tied back for school.
Spellings will be given out on a Friday and tested the following Friday. Home learning is handed out on a Wednesday and is due the following Monday – this will have a Maths/English focus. Reading is extremely important. The children will have the opportunity to regularly visit the school library and will be expected to have a suitable book in school each day which they can enjoy at Guided Reading times. Reading a range of different genres and authors can have a real impact on their vocabulary and ideas and books should get progressively more challenging as the year goes by.
Thank you for visiting the Year 5 page. Here’s to a great year!
